How emla® helps erase needle pain

Research has shown that children think a needle is the most frightening and painful thing about visiting the doctor. It has been shown that a child is likely to retain a fear of needles if they have been traumatised at the doctor’s previously.1

There is a way to relieve the distress and pain of visiting the doctor for a needle. emla® is an easy to use patch or cream, that is applied to the skin prior to procedures such as needles, to prevent pain. It works by numbing the skin so that needles and minor skin surgery procedures can be performed without pain.2

Over 200 million people worldwide have been effectively treated with emla® and it has been used successfully in Australia since 1988.3
